Dayahang Rai is a talented and charming actor of Nepal, known for comic role as Gople in Loot and fantastic act inKabaddi. He was born in Bhojpur, Nepal and led a very simple childhood life there. He started his acting career with small roles at first with Anup Baral at Nachghar acting school. He was always interested in plays and the radio but there were no opportunities for him; it was only a dream. He was a regular fixture in the audience of street plays and viewed them with a critic’s eye. He even had an interest in the fine arts and sketched while in school.
After reaching 18 of age, he moved around to Dharan, Damak and Jhapa but was never able to muster up the courage to come to Kathmandu as the capital city scared him. In his village he had only seen a plane flying overhead and very few vehicles. He lived with his relatives and though he was still interested in the arts, he could not find any way to get into it. So, Daya spent most of his time playing football and writing stories.
Finally, at 21, Dayahang Rai landed in Kathmandu and stayed with his uncle where he found out about a workshop at Nachghar, which was being conducted by Anup Baral. He also managed to get a small role. That role helped him realize the importance, and his passion for, acting. he went on to do more plays and met many theater artists. He also acted in a dummy tele serial called Mokshya with actors like Sudarshan Thapa and Kriti Bhattarai. Meanwhile, Gurukul was just being established at this time. He worked with Bijay Bisfot and other actors in many stage plays. He also acted with Navin Subba in the famous serial Dalan in six episodes. Around this time, he also acted in a movie Anagarik with director Ram Babu Gurung, and writer Shrawan Mukarung.
In 2007, he did a three-month course at Actors Studio and worked in various plays. During the end of this period, he directed a play Mahiladotcom, which led to a movie Mero Euta Sathi Cha and then, the critically acclaimed Dasdhunga. Eventually, he acted in Hamro Team (serial), Loot, Highway, Chadke and Badhshala, which have all been released to critical acclaim. He told us - I Want to date with Jharana: Dayahang Rai.
In 30th January of 2015, another fantastic movie ‘Sambodhan’ was released which featured Dayahang Rai in lead role. His performance in this movie was hailed by many and some even claimed him to be the best actor of his generation.
