5 Gold Smuggler arrest By Nepal Police With 4 kg Gold

KATHMANDU, MAR 12 - Police on Tuesday night arrested four people who were smuggling around 4 kilograms of gold wrapped in condoms and placed inside their rectum. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a vehicle coming from Khasa in China at Sallaghari and took five people, who pretended to be innocent, to Maharajung-based Nepal Police Hospital to conduct x-ray. The x-ray reports showed that the gold was indeed kept inside their body. Police identified the arrestees as Bharat Karki, 29, and Laxman Karki, 33, of Ramechhap, Sunil Kumar Khadka, 34, of Dolakha and Ishwor Basnet, 32, of Kathmandu. The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Subash Raut of Sindhupalchowk, has also been arrested.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Pushkar Karki, chief of the Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Division, four pieces of gold weighing 900 grams each were recovered from each of the four individuals.

Police said all of them have been sent to the Department of Revenue Investigation for further investigation. Three days back, police had busted a major gold smuggling ring that had long been illegally importing the precious metal from China.
